Day 6 - Let's Read Together : A 7-Day Step Plan for Parents at Home
Share
Congratulations! You've made it to Day 6 of our phonics journey, and today calls for a celebration of all the hard work your child has put in. It's time to pick up an early reader book filled with phonetic words and familiar sounds, and let’s read together! Today, we’ll focus on building confidence as your child takes their first steps into reading independently.
Reading Aloud Together:
Choose an early reader book with simple, phonetic words that your child is already familiar with. These books often have simple sentences and predictable patterns, which help boost your child’s confidence. Take turns reading aloud, with you reading the first sentence and your child reading the next. This will give your child the opportunity to practice their new phonics skills while still having your support.
Encouraging Independent Reading:
As your child reads, encourage them to sound out words they’re unsure of, but don’t interrupt too much. Let them take the lead in reading the words they can confidently decode. Celebrate their success, no matter how small, and offer plenty of positive reinforcement to keep their enthusiasm high.
Cherishing the Bonding Moment:
Reading together is a wonderful way to bond with your child. Use this moment not only to teach but to enjoy the magic of stories. Ask questions about the story, such as "What do you think will happen next?" or "What was your favorite part?" Engaging in these conversations fosters comprehension and excitement for reading.
Conclusion:
Day 6 is a celebration of everything your child has learned so far. By reading together, you’re reinforcing their phonics skills and building their confidence as a reader. As you take turns reading and discussing the story, you're unlocking a world of imagination and learning that will stay with them for years to come. Stay tuned for Day 7, where we’ll wrap up our journey with a fun phonics recap!
