A Nation Awakes When Lord Curzon partitioned Bengal with the intention ofweakening the people, it only served to unite them and strengthentheir desire for freedom. The weapon they chose was swadeshi andthe blow was aimed at European business interests. The movementspread and the cry Vande Mataram resounded throughout the land. Themovement caused a split in the National Congress. The moderates,who believed in continuing with petitions to the government partedways with the extremists who believed in agitating for theirrights. The period saw a spurt in revolutionary activities. Despiteall differences the people continued the struggle till thepartition of Bengal was annulled.
