When King Dushyanta first encountered Shakuntala, he was captivated by her unparalleled beauty and kind nature. He married her and promised to bring her to his palace. However, a curse from the sage Durvasa erased her memory from his mind, leaving him unable to recognize her. Much later, when the curse was lifted, he realized his mistake, but it seemed it might be too late. The story of Shakuntala originally appeared in the Mahabharata and was later adapted into a play by the renowned Sanskrit dramatist and poet, Kalidasa.
