Jataka Tales are a collection of stories that talk about the previous births of Buddha. Buddha appears either in human or animal form, but still demonstrates his benevolent nature. This body of work forms an important part of Buddhist literature.
This first tale in Elephant Stories talks about a helpful elephant that comes to the aid of a traveller. This man is lost in the jungle and the elephant helps him as he tries to get back to the city. The elephant willingly provides the man his tusks so he can sell them and earn some money.
The second tale narrates an incident where an elephant keeps a young quail safe and out of harm’s way. The third story features a kind-hearted elephant that assists weary wood-workers to lift and move heavy logs of wood.
This book, Elephant Stories, teaches children about good morals and values as the tale progresses. It encourages children to be prepared to lend a helping hand to those in need. This book contains three stories written in simple language for children to understand.
