In 1935, he joined a British expedition to climb the Nanga Parbat in the Himalayas, but the mission was abandoned due to bad weather. He later joined several other expeditions, including two attempts on Everest in 1952 and 1953.
On the third British expedition in 1953, Tenzing was chosen to be part of the team to make the final ascent to the summit of Everest along with Edmund Hillary. They reached the summit on May 29, 1953, becoming the first climbers to do so.
Tenzing Norgay went on to become a well-known figure in the mountaineering world, and continued to climb and guide expeditions for many years. He also became involved in the establishment of schools and hospitals in the Khumbu region.
In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded several honors, including the George Medal and the Order of the British Empire. He passed away on May 9, 1986, but his legacy continues to inspire people around the world to pursue their dreams and reach for the heights.
