Picking up after the events of Batman: Knightquest: The Crusade Vol. 1, Bruce Wayne remains missing due to severe injuries sustained in a recent confrontation with Bane. In his absence, the responsibility of protecting Gotham City falls upon Jean-Paul Valley, known as Azrael. However, Valley grapples with his personal struggles and endeavors to live up to the high standards set by his predecessor.

As the Joker resurfaces with a wild new plan to dismantle the Dark Knight, a twist arises when the Clown Prince of Crime begins to suspect that something is awry with his long-standing archrival.
