Skills include Sensory Input, Thumb Stress, Pincer Grasp, Muscle Tone, Dexterity, Hand Flexibility, Finger Pressure. Young children need to be able to control the smaller movements of their hands and fingers. They also need to develop the required pressure and strength in their palms and fingers. Control and strength of these small muscles is important for children's later handwriting skill development. Children use fine muscle skills when they grasp, touch and feel. Pencil skills particularly handwriting is a more complex skill that we often realize. In this book, children will do various activities like feel different textures, tear paper, crumble paper, twist paper, do thumb and finger printing, handle crayons, use paint, colour images, complete mazes, use a scissor and many more. Children's ability to do these simple activities as part of the prewriting process forms the building blocks for formal writing of letters, words and numbers. These activity pages are sequentially arranged so as to help in the various skills needed for writing. At the bottom of each page, you will be able to identify the skill that is being enhanced. Take time to read the skill and help your child attempt the activity on the page keeping the skill in mind. Understand and enjoy the development of your child's handwriting process.
