About This Book

Fractured Communities is based on Umar Khalid's PhD thesis on the history of the Adivasi tribes of Singhbhum in Jharkhand. The thesis was submitted to the Centre for Historical Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University in July 2018.

The work was completed during a particularly challenging period in the author's life, when he was facing sedition charges, had spent time in jail and had been rusticated from the university.
