Sasui | Hardcover

Sasui by Shah Abdul Latif is a literary classic drawn from Shah Jo Risalo, the major poetic work of the Sindhi poet. The book tells the tragic love story of Sasui and Punhun, combining romance, separation, longing, and a demanding journey across deserts and mountains.

Sasui's search for her abducted husband becomes more than a story of personal devotion. Her physical journey is also presented through a Sufi perspective, where the longing of a lover for the beloved reflects the soul's yearning for union with the Divine.

About This Book

The story centres on Sasui, a woman from a low-caste community, and Punhun, her Baloch husband. When Punhun is abducted by his brothers and taken to Kech, Sasui sets out to find him despite the dangers and hardships along the way.

Her quest takes her through difficult landscapes of deserts and mountains, turning the familiar theme of separated lovers into a story of endurance and spiritual longing. The narrative draws on the poetic traditions represented in Shah Jo Risalo.

Sasui connects human love with Sufi ideas of devotion and spiritual union. Sasui's yearning for Punhun becomes a poetic representation of the soul's desire to reach the Divine.
