When Yalda learns that her twin brother, Yusuf, will be performing with his band at a local venue, she reluctantly agrees to let her friends convince her to sneak out and see the show. However, the night takes an unexpected turn: after the opening band makes offensive jokes about “terrorists,” Yusuf responds to the hate speech with an impulsive stunt during his performance.

This act ignites simmering tensions in their Virginia town, home to many Afghan refugees seeking safety. As a video of Yusuf’s performance goes viral, the town's hostility shifts towards their family’s restaurant, putting their livelihood at risk. The situation worsens when Yusuf is seriously injured in a mysterious fall.

Amidst a grieving and fearful family, uncertain friendships, and a town that no longer feels safe, Yalda must find her own voice and strive to make a positive change in her world.
