There's a Ghost in My Room

There's a Ghost in My Room by Sanjoy K. Roy is a memoir shaped by the author's encounters with apparitions, spirits, and unexplained supernatural experiences across India and abroad. From an ancestral home in Calcutta to his parents' bungalow in Lutyens' Delhi, Roy recounts encounters that began in childhood and continued throughout his life.

Blending travel, personal memories, humour, adventure, and period detail, the book presents Roy's experiences with a variety of otherworldly beings. Some encounters are described as harmless or mischievous, while others involve troubled spirits that require a more careful response.

About This Book

Roy's first encounter with a spirit takes place when he is five years old in his ancestral house in Calcutta. Years later, similar experiences occur at his family's home in Delhi, beginning a pattern of encounters that continues across different places and stages of his life.

As Roy and the people around him encounter apparitions, spectres, and phantoms, the memoir presents the supernatural as something woven into his everyday experiences. His perspective includes both benign spirits and more unsettled souls whose presence is more difficult to deal with.

There's a Ghost in My Room also takes readers beyond individual ghost stories. Framed as a journey through a mysterious parallel world inhabited by spirits and souls, the memoir combines personal recollection with travel and observations about places, people, and the supernatural.
