A biography of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, a writer, educationalist and social reformer who spent his life educating the lower classes of Bengal. He was the first person to present a codified system of teaching Bengali grammar and spelling. He was also a noted supporter of women's rights; he established Bengal's first girls' school, and he initiated the practice of widow remarriage.
